Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Group
Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in power within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of heroes who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could help the team enter places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
- The warrior and The healer defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in quest for Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Questers and Schemers tables.
Audiences can expect finding out which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
